Q&A with Australian Open Champ and World #1

It's been a dizzying few days for Danny Kapovic, whose life will never be the same again. In between all his media obligations, I was able to sit down with Danny for a few minutes by Rockefeller Center, where he reflected on his journey during the past fortnight.

Were you able to watch the women's final? And, if so, how would you describe your emotions during the course of the match?
Actually I didn't watch the final because I was a bit too nervous. I went to sleep but of course kept waking up and I saw Caro won the first set and had just lost the second. I tried to sleep after that but I honestly didn't fall asleep again until Caro won. If I had been watching the match, I would have been a wreck because it was so close!

Did you contact Wozniacki prior to the match to let her know what was at stake?
Well of course I tried. She was too busy to take my call but I let her father know how important it was for her to win... for me, not for her.

This is your first major title, and it's the first major of the year. Are you already thinking calendar slam, or are you just taking things one tournament at a time?
I am definitely taking it one tournament at a time. It is my first title and first Major so I am just overjoyed right now and going to enjoy it. I won't think about tennis for a couple of weeks and then get ready for Indian Wells!
