US Open Champ Reflects on Her Historic Fortnight

It's been wall-to-wall media attention for Roberta Bell, our 2017 US Open champion. But now it's time for Roberta to take a step back and reflect on what it all means. Earlier today, I caught up with Roberta at the Johnny Cash Museum in Nashville, where we strolled by the marvelous displays, and I got her to open up about her record-breaking performance.

200. You will be forever linked to this number. How does it feel to become immortalized?
I’m honored and never thought I had it in me. Surely, another season could bring more, right?

Your two FTL titles have come during the summer hard court events (Cincinnati and the US Open). What is it about this time of year that brings out the best in you?
Hard courts are where it’s at. Nothing like the last minute to bring it in. It’s the pressure – so much pressure.

You leave the 2017 season with some serious mojo. How do you plan to sustain it during the offseason?
Lots of drinking….well, ok, and maybe some research for next season – with sustained focus assisted by gumballs from my new gumball machine…suckas!
