Q&A with our Wimbledon Champion

Once Greg clinched Wimbledon, I flew out to the Ritz in London, where Greg is staying. In between his other media obligations, Greg was kind enough to sit down and share an afternoon tea with me by the hotel lobby. It was there that I was able to get him to reflect on his title run, while pondering what lies ahead in the near future.

(1) Muguruza was clearly your biggest weapon. Few had the foresight to select her, and you were the only one with the courage to put her at the top. What did you see in her that propelled you to make such a bold move?
Hummm....dumb luck played a bit of a role, seriously. I saw it as a Federer & Muguruza pair of titles and picked it that way....I could still be right. [I should have emailed you AND Vegas!] Muguruza had some success at Wimbledon in her past...and the biggest obstacle the year she almost won was Serena. Pallab and I bounced ideas off each other right before I took off 'across the pond' as they say....that helped. I just wish I had the guts to go with Cilic because both of us noted how well he was looking.

(2) You are projected to be in the driver's seat when the updated Overall Standings are released tomorrow. With only three events remaining, the finish line is in sight. How will you keep your nerves over the next two months?
Well, since I bested Chris in the Wimbledon tally, he owes me soothing nightly bedtime stories for the first two weeks. That should help.

(3) One of our three remaining events is in Cincinnati, where Chris will have the home court advantage (just like you had at Wimbledon). Word on the street is that he will try to rattle your cage a bit. There are already reports of Chris calling himself "young and mighty Serena" and calling you "weak and aging Venus." How do you respond?
Home court for Chris in Cindy can't be overlooked.....I'm worried, I'll admit it. Chris is younger, fitter, and better looking than me.......and he uses all those charms to get inside access once the players start milling about. [His Federer & Wawrinka story is legendary], but I'm going to rely on my old man swagger.
