Chatting with the US Open Champ

Congrats again to Pallab Ghosh, who is our 2016 US Open Champion!  Earlier today, I caught up with Pallab outside the Cate Center to get a few reactions to his tremendous achievement.

How does it feel to capture your first major title?
I knew I would win the title if Karolina Pliskova defeats Serena Williams. Since I have a similar reaction like Pliskova, I quote her, "I don't believe it." (Her first reaction after the semifinal match against Serena Williams).

It's a very special feeling because this is my first title in FTL and on the top, it's the US Open. This is one of the proudest moments of my life to take home the US Open trophy and then come so close to be the FTL champion.

You seem to be ending 2016 with a lot of momentum. How important is that as we head into 2017?
I would say rather than the momentum, winning this title would help me to believe that I can win another one. After losing so many tournaments, I had the doubt in my mind whether I could ever win a title.

You were two games away from being the FTL champion this year. What were your thoughts during that tense and exciting third set?
I had to switch off the TV many times during the Pliskova vs. Kerber match because I couldn't take that immense pressure at the very tense moments. I left the room when Pliskova was 0-30 down in the final set (4-5) and was hoping that no more unforced errors from Pliskova. When I came back, it was over. Later, I realized that this is the first time it happened when Federer was not playing.
